I think time was a factor, it would be like tires that are exposed to ozone and other chemicals in the air, some of those still have alot of tread when the sidewall cracks call for replacement. Still many folks change chains yearly, and they are not cheap, require constant oiling and adjustment and will generally need sprockets every other chain. I do like my belt drive other than the suspension travel limitation it must require. Unless they put a tensioner in the system, it runs in a pretty fixed tension state with the limited rear wheel travel. Similar belts used in OK Cam auto applications run from 35,000-100,000 miles w/o failure. VW even drives the diesel injection pump off one. HD manages them with all their torque and some pretty high HP modified engines. This year they are even using a slightly narrower one so they can stuff a fatter tire in the back. Max
